Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Cusco and Historical Exploration
Upon arrival in Cusco, our Peruvian Great Journeys team will welcome you and transfer you to your accommodation. After a short rest, we’ll begin a fascinating City Tour visiting the main highlights of the city, including the Temple of the Sun (Qoricancha) and the archaeological sites of Sacsayhuamán, Qenqo, Tambomachay, and Pucapucara. This will be your first immersion into the cultural richness of Cusco.
Day 2: Chinchero – Moray – Maras Salt Mines
We depart at 8:00 a.m. to Chinchero, known for its vibrant textile tradition. Then, we head to Moray, a unique archaeological site with circular terraces once used as an agricultural laboratory. We continue to the Maras Salt Mines, where you’ll learn about ancient salt extraction methods. You’ll have the afternoon free to explore the village and enjoy traditional drinks like chicha de jora.
Day 3: Sacred Valley – Train to Aguas Calientes
The day begins with a visit to the Taray Viewpoint to admire the landscape of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We continue to Pisac to explore its agricultural terraces and archaeological remains. Then, we head to Urubamba for a buffet lunch and visit the fortress of Ollantaytambo in the afternoon. From there, we board the train to Aguas Calientes.
Day 4: Machu Picchu – Return to Cusco
Early in the morning, we take the bus up to the citadel of Machu Picchu. Enjoy a guided tour through the most important sectors such as the Intihuatana, Temple of the Sun, and agricultural terraces. You’ll have free time to explore on your own before returning to Ollantaytambo by train and then to Cusco by tourist bus.
Day 5: Southern Valley Tour
Discover Cusco’s lesser-known yet equally fascinating side. We’ll visit Tipón, known for its impressive hydraulic system, then Pikillacta, a pre-Inca city from the Wari culture, and finally the Church of San Pedro de Andahuaylillas, famous for its colonial murals. In the afternoon, enjoy regional cuisine and some free time in Cusco.
Day 6: Farewell to Cusco
At the scheduled time, we’ll transfer you to the airport for your return flight. We say goodbye with gratitude and the best memories of this magical journey!
